Step 1: Assemble your board

Install the compute module, attach the legs, and plug in your cables.

Step 2: Choose your Operating System

Windows*

The Windows 64-bit Installer will install your drivers, update your firmware, and let you install your development environment (IDE).

Step 3: Set up a Serial Terminal

You'll need a serial terminal connection to your board for flashing the firmware.

Step 4: Connect your board to the Internet

To get going in the "I" of IoT, connect your board to your Wi-Fi* network.

Step 5: Which IDE did you choose?

Let us know which IDE you chose in the Installer.

Step 6: Try it out!

Edison Blink

Your very first project is to blink the LED on the board. This ensures that all your software, network connectivity, and firmware images are up to date and correct, and that your board is communicating with your computer.

Step 7: Get sensors

Without sensors you can't take advantage of the power and creativity available to you with the IoT platform. Depending on your project, you'll need at least one sensor, maybe more.

If you are using our Intel® IoT Developer Kit, follow the instructions in our next steps section. Otherwise, visit the site of your sensor manufacturer for sample Arduino code.
